About DevPocket
Free JSON and JavaScript tools that never upload your data.
What DevPocket is
DevPocket is a set of small, focused developer tools: a JSON formatter and validator, converters between JSON, CSV, YAML and TypeScript, a JSON diff and JSONPath tester, a JavaScript minifier and beautifier, a regular expression tester, a JWT decoder, and a handful of encoders such as Base64, URL encoding, hashes, UUIDs and Unix timestamps. Each tool has its own page with a short explanation, a worked example and answers to common questions.
Everything runs in your browser
The defining design decision is that no tool sends your input to a server. When you paste JSON, a token or a block of code, it is processed by JavaScript running inside the page. The site is a set of static files: there is no application server that could receive your data, and no account to sign in to. You can confirm this yourself: open your browser's network panel while using a tool and you will see no requests carrying your input. Large inputs are handled in a background Web Worker so the page stays responsive.
How the tools are built
The conversion and analysis logic lives in plain TypeScript modules with automated tests that cover normal input, edge cases and error messages. Two well-known open-source libraries do the heavy lifting where writing our own would be unwise: Terser for JavaScript minification and js-beautify for formatting, plus the yaml package for YAML. They are loaded only on the pages that use them, which keeps the other pages light and fast.
Settings and privacy
A few conveniences, such as your preferred indentation, are remembered in your browser's local storage. The text you type is never stored. Read the Privacy Policy for the details.
How the site is funded
The tools are free to use. The site may in future show clearly labelled advertisements, which are kept away from buttons and input fields so they do not interfere with the tools. Ad-related cookies, if any, are described in the privacy policy and only used after you make a choice.
